JOHN CLIFFORD SAYS:
I rang Amber to discuss becoming an ADI (Approved Driving Instructor) in August 2005 one lunch time, I then arranged to go to the office for an informal chat one afternoon after I had finished work. I found this quite surprising at first because it would be around 6.00pm that I got there but that was no problem. For this reason alone I thought this firm would be able to help me. I was proved right. At this meeting my options and questions were answered both honestly and realistically. I was also advised to have an assessment with a Qualified Instructor Trainer. I took this advice and arranged to meet again for the assessment. The assessment itself proved to be very worthwhile as it gave me a chance to see what I would be paying for and what being an ADI is about.
In September 2005 I signed up for the course and began training. Getting qualified entails passing 3 exams. Part 1 is a Theory and Hazard Perception Test and all relevant study material was given to me. Whilst studying for my Part 1, my Part 2 Training also began which is a driving ability exam. Once I had passes my Part 1 and 2 exams, training for my Part 3 started and for me was the most enjoyable part as it is the Instruction Ability Exam. I finally passed my Part 3 in May 2007.
All the training I received was excellent, it was most importantly productive yet relaxed and began on a Saturday afternoon displaying again how flexible they could be. This was very important to me as I have a young family and also needed to work full time to support. During my time as a trainee all of the staff were happy to do anything possible to guide and help me to become an ADI.
When you join Amber as a trainee you soon feel as if you are part of the team. I feel that this is a real credit to not only Sue and Dave but also Ruth, Tony and all the other instructors who you will have seen in Cumbria and Southwest Scotland. They were all willing to give their support, time and advice.
KEV FRANCIS SAYS:
Now that I’m qualified as a driving instructor I can say that even though it was not an easy process it was however made easier with the professional tuition that I received from Amber Drive. The training was informative but put across in a relaxed manner that suited my individual teaching style. My ADI trainer was always helpful, relaxed and enthusiastic and it is those traits that enable learning to be done in a manner that develops a student’s confidence.
As an Army driving instructor it was a logical progression for me to go into driving instruction when I left the army. I was able to attend lessons that suited me and these were worked around my own working schedule.
As a member of the Amber Drive team I’m looking forward in progressing in my chosen career as a driving instructor and hope to branch out to be able to teach minibus, Motorbike and HGV in the future.

Having qualified to be a Driving Instructor I can honestly say it is one of the best things I have ever chosen to do. The training was always fun, informative and delivered with such enthusiasm and skill it was impossible not to enjoy the learning and take on board the excellent instructional skills of my trainer.
The training was fitted around my normal working hours so it balanced well with work and family life. There is support from all the team at Amber and the fellow trainees, which gives you the confidence to succeed.
Now that I have qualified I have the support of Sue and the team to branch into many different areas of instruction, the possibilities are endless.
